Invented in Japan in 2003, Pecha Kucha puts young designer’s presentation skills to the test. 20 slides, 20 seconds, no skipping forward, no rests. CRuel and unusual punishment, I know, but its popularity has caused it to spread to over 100 cities including London, Cape Town, and Kuwait!

I witnessed my first round of Pecha Kucha presentations in 2009 during the Cardiff Design Festival’s Ignite event. Subjects ranged from an incredibly long number ‘invented’ by a mathematician’s 5 year old son, to quick start chicken keeping with something called an ‘Eggloo’. It was an interesting experience, most of the participants seemed unflustered by the 20second rule until a slide appeared that they had completely forgotten about over the last few slides.

You’ll never catch me doing one, that’s for sure!

Over the next few weeks I will be posting a few 100 word reviews on Pecha Kucha’s undertaken by the students of UWIC’s Graphic Communication course, on the subject of inspiration. Should be an interesting few weeks…

Stay posted!
