The basic idea behind this cover is, quite obviously, the giant peach. I chose to emphasise this aspect because it is the main selling point of the book, and the main target audience (children) will be intrigued by, and drawn to this cover. I created the illusion of scale by only including a segment of the peach, suggesting that the even the book isn’t big enough to hold it. As this is often one of the first ‘big books’ a child reads, I thought that this inclusion of scale was appropriate.
I constructed this cover using paper cutouts. As the strongest element of this design lies in the boldness of the shapes, I wanted to emphasise this through the use of simple materials that children could associate with.
