The idea for this cover stemmed, initially, from one of the characters appearing in a cloud of butterflies. However, butterflies have far too positive connotations to accompany this book, it did not reflect the mood of degradation and corruption. After a group brainstorming session, it came to my attention that moths, who have far more suiting associations to the themes in this book, also played a part in the story. To capture the delicateness of the moths I used lacy patterned silhouettes in a pale blue to represent fragility. If you look carefully, you will notice that I included seven moth shapes on the front cover to represent the seven generations of the family. On the back cover there is only one moth, this causes the viewer to wonder where the other six have gone. It also shows how, in the end, there is only one member left of the main families lineage.
